I was on a journey to find a job I can do from home. I was on the work at home moms website and clicked on an ad. To make a long story short, I was brought to Melaleuca. I thought hmmm, I can buy safe products for my family and also make a business out of this. The first thing I didn’t like about this company was that I had to sign up to purchase 35 product points a month, which seemed a lot for my family. Oh yeah, and if you didn’t order, you had to have a back up order on file and they would automatically send you that and charge your card. Well I gave it a try, ordered my products, and received them a week later.
One of the personal products I purchased was body wash. Renew body wash for adults and Koala pals for my sons. I don’t know if the person who tried to sell me on Melaleuca didn’t think that I would look at the ingredients in these products. Lets just say….
Renew body wash and Koala pals –
Some of the ingredients:
PEG 80 Sorbitan Laurate, is not safe to use on injured or damaged skin. There is also a strong evidence of being a human skin toxicant and is a primary skin irritant. Not good for everyday use, only limited use.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine, is a skin sensitizer – an agent that can induce allergic reaction in the skin or lungs. Again not safe for everyday use, only safe for limited use.
Fragrance, is a known human immune system toxicant. Also has a score of 8 for high hazard.
I could go on and on about the ingredients on these products. How can a “wellness” company sell products like these or How could anyone promote this company? These are 2 questions I have. This company is not a green company. They claim that Johnson’s baby wash is harmful and toxic. Well most of the ingredients in Johnson’s is also in there koala pals body wash.
I sent an email to the woman who signed me up for Melaleuca with the same questions. Of course, I never got a response. Obviously I was right in my findings and she couldn’t fight for her “Company”. Well I deleted my account with Melaleuca and I will tell as many people that I can about this company. They are not a green company!!! Also I have heard through other blogs that they do test there products on animals. Not sure how true that is though.

In fact, it’s often used in cleansers because of its thickening and foaming properties, which help moisturize the skin . Cocamidopropyl betaine is even found in many baby soaps and shampoos. However, some people can have allergic reactions to the chemical compound. If using cosmetics that contain cocamidopropyl betaine cause your skin to redden, itch or flake, talk to a dermatologist — the surfactant can cause contact dermatitis .

Cocamidopropyl betaine is suspected to be an environmental toxin by the Environment Canada Domestic Substance List and contains nitrosamines! Cocamidopropyl betaine also contains the impurities 3-DIMETHYLAMINOPROPYLAMINE and COCAMIDOPROPYL DIMETHYLAMINE, which are classified as toxic or harmful in the European Union and shows evidence of immune system toxicity. Yes, these are different countries, but don’t you think they know something that we don’t? Our US government just doesn’t care what is put into our products, and therefore, we cannot trust ANY company that allows these types of chemicals into their products.

On a recent Melaleuca product presentation. Person said no parabens in any of products. Renew lotion lists two parabens as ingredients. BS again. Also, stated no aspartame in gum. Sweeten with xylitol. True. But, in the second ingredient list of Exceed gum sucralose listed. Again. Deceptive BS.

I think anybody anywhere can find something about anything that is negative but I know for sure instead of buying products full of toxic chemicals in my local super market I will be ordering from Melaleuca. I know that just the two of us will spend our $70.00 USD or so easily in a month and I prefer scientifically tested proven products.

No, I do not want to join Melaleuca again. This is your opinion and thank you for it!!! Their is no way I can fill a 35 product point order every month. That is ridiculous. I would be buying stuff I don’t need. I don’t agree with products being sent to you if you do not shop in a certain month. I like freedom of choice and like to shop on my own time, when I need a product.
I guess I had higher expectations of Melaleuca. I thought I was going to see on the ingredients list all natural ingredients. That wasn’t the case. I use California Baby for my child and if you look at the ingredients list, there is not one thing on there that is in Koala pals. Koala pals and Johnsons had alot of the same ingredients, that is what I was astonished by. I am not here to put any company down, but when you look up in the household products database. There are known cases of people being allergic to *Cocamidopropyl betaine
**Cocamidopropyl betaine *is an amphoteric surfactant used increasingly in cosmetic products. We describe 20 cases of cosmetic allergy to *cocamidopropyl betaine, *all were caused by shampoo or shower gel. 8 patients were hairdressers, who had occupational allergic contact dermatitis from shampoos. We recommend patch testing *cocamidopropyl betaine *1% aq. routinely in hairdressers with dermatitis of the hands, and in all patients suspected of suffering from cosmetic allergy.
Granted alot of these products are not good for you when used in excess, probably why some hairdressers have an allergy to it.
YES, This ingredient is in most of the personal products out there today and it is hard to find something without it or alot of the other ingredients out there on the market. I am on a search for a NATURAL product and I will continue my search and my research on products. Thank you!!! * *

A agree with Noel – I have been a satisfied, successful customer and Director for 3 years – I love Melaleuca – it has improved my family’s health and my own – since being on the wonderful vitamins my blood pressure and cholesterol medicine has been reduced (my mother has actually been taken off of her cholesterol medicine completely) and we have been illness free for 2 years – I attribute this to Melaleuca! I have a family of 6 and shopping with Melaleuca has helped me to reduce my monthly household expenses! We will ALWAYS be loyal Melaleuca customers!

Thank you for your opinion. I found that Melaleuca was way to expensive and did not have the money to put into it every month. Glad you are having a good experience with them. Just by cutting back on red meat, a person is able to reduce their blood pressure and cholesterol. Just an FYI.

Hi my name is Judy. Yes I have no problem telling you who I am. I am Multi Chemical Sensitive and was so excited when I heard about Melaleuca and being a healthy product. Very few people understand this illness and believe me you wouldn’t wish this on your worst enemy. I really thought these products would be a real life changer for me.and I was so excited and relieved to find these kind of products. I went to a presentation one evening and went to use the washroom. While in there my lips started to get red and sore on the inside. Unfortunately for me my sense of smell is 10 times more than anyone that does not have this problem. I also am considered lucky to get reactions so quickly as most people don’t have this immediate reaction and signal that something is wrong. She was burning a wax pot in there and when I came out I asked her if she was burning a scented candle in there and told her the reaction I had.. When she told me it was one of Melaleuca products I was devastated. She came out to me a few minutes later and told me she put the candle out and opened the window. I was so caught up in the whole presentation that I clung to every word she said. By the time I left I had a sore mouth and a horrible horrible headache. But was still very hopeful and excited in this product. That was on a Wed and she gave me a sample of Renew skin therapy. On Friday I was taking my mother to an appointment and I pit the Renew on for the first time and left right out the door.By the time I got to my Mom’s house 10-15 mins away my mouth was already bothering. me. By the time we got to her appointment I had a terrible headache, my mouth was really sore and I was aching all over and my voice was was already starting to get raspy.. I was taking my Mom to laser therapy for pain as this therapy took away my pain. When Tina came out she mentioned I didn’t look well and the way I was rubbing my body I looked like I was in pain. Which I was so she gave me a treatment to help me. .By the time I got home I had heart palpatations and my breathing problem. I immediate looked and the Renew ingredients and right there it said fragrance. I couldn’t believe it !! Yes these are the nasty symptoms of Multi Chemical Sensitivity. I was crushed . I had dreams of being a great spokesperson for this product to verify how healthy a product it really is.I then started thinking back to the presentation and instead of being caught up in what was said I realistically thought about what was really said.Pyramid? How many people do you have under you that you make money off of. And how many people do they have under them that you both make money on. And so on and so on. She makes biggg money off this product and it’s not from buying products for her family. The prices are atrocious yet nothing even the product books didn’t have prices in them. Everything was based on points and I was so caught up I didn’t think to ask what this amounted to in $ value..Also throughout the night it was constantly mentioned about such a safe product they didn’t have childproof lids them. Then I started thinking. Well I have never bought any products with safety lids on them unless it was a prescription or Tylenol or something.,She had people there telling their stories and yes they claim it helped them heath wise but it was mostly about how the money they made changed their lives . I wasn’t there for that I was there for health reasons. Two out of two products I had a reaction to. Thank God before I bought them and got caught up in all this mess. I don’t have $70.00 dollars a month. I can go to The Health Basket and get natural healthy products whenever I want and buy only what I want and know that they are healthy natural products that don’y have child proof lids on them either at a price that is affordable for me. And HEALTHY. Am I jealous about Melaleuca? Not likely . I am crushed that they are not the healthy lifestyle products they claim them to be. I should have checked into this product myself and really all I had to do is read the ingredients on the website where it has the word FRAGRANCE. I buy all natural fragrance free products and that living healthy. Scientists involved means unnatural products not Healthy products . I am very very sad to discover this.. I was very ill for 3 days and my daughter wanted to take me to the hospital but I just wanted to be in my own home and nowhere else. I also knew that my breathing and chest pains weren’t bad enough and if it got any worse I would let her know. This ended up being an experience that made me really ill and concern for my family. What you just described makes it a pyramid scheme. If I wanted to buy just the product could I? I have no desire to sign up to sell anything. (Not Mary Kay, not Melaleuca, not Scentsy…etc.) What I want to know is can a customer order just the product without signing up?

Pyramid schemes are illegal and when money is exchanged w/o any product or service. So, no, Melaleuca isn’t a pyramid scheme. Because they are a manufacturing company, you can’t purchase w/o a membership, but you can create a ‘direct customer’ account which will allow you to shop when you want as long as it’s w/i 3 month spans, but not each month and not the 35 product points. The purpose for the points and monthly is because they are international, but also just as Procter and Gamble, Johnson & Johnson and such, they have a agreement with Wal-Mart or Kroger that they will purchase a specific amount each month to keep their shelves stocked and so the manufacturer knows how much they will need to produce to meet those demands. Melaleuca is a manufacturer and needs to meet consumer demands, so they need to know how much they need to be prepared to manufacturer month-to-month to meet consumers demands as well. Makes sense … they are manufacturing as you are shopping … love that I receive fresh products when I shop.

I joined Melaleuca 3 months ago and so far I am wholly unimpressed. Having to commit to 35 points per month is ridiculous. I am single. I cannot possibly purchase enough stuff. I have enough cleaning products to last me a year. Their biggest push is the Oligo vitamins. I take an all natural liquid vitamin already. No matter how many times I hear the pitch, no matter how much science they claim is behind their product, a pill is never going to absorb better than a liquid. The protein bars, etc. are very expensive. I just placed my order and spent $73(included shipping and $20 loyalty dollars) All I ended up
with wS 2 bites of their version of febreeze, one month supply if vegetable capsules, 10 diet bars, 10 protein bars, one month supply if vitamins. I can spend the same money and get two weeks worth of healthy groceries!!!! The sales pitch is that you will save money. I don’t think so! And, prices if you are not a member – are they nuts? Outrageous. I’m looking at there ad now… they say you save 25% using their Vitality Pack over buying the supplements individually. Well, mist people are taking a multi vitamin/mineral product and not buying separately. It’s all word games with them.

I’ve been a really happy customer shopping with Melaleuca for over 9 years. Best decision I ever made for my family. If you “joined” which nobody does (we open our account and shop direct- no contract and account could be cancelled very easily at any time) and read your information kit, you would see that their are no distributors. People shop directly with the manufacturer. Right from the get-go the info you were privvy to iyou didn’t look at. I really get upset when I read these untruths, because if it wasn’t for Melaleuca I would not enjoy the health I have today. People like you are ruining a good thing for other people. Melaleuca NEVER claims to be all natural… their claim is that they offer safer for your home products combined with the best of science and nature. They will never use an ingredient that will hurt us or the environment. The Better Business Bureau awarded them the Torch award for being a company that operates with exemplary business practices. If what they said was untrue they would be sued. Look at http://www.melaleucaawards.com.

If you don’t care about your health then this is not for you, because you can easily purchase 35pt a month in just vitamins alone, and being able to have a residual income to boot. I feel great and I’m getting a residual income WHAA-WHOO!!!

I’m very disappointed in Rainbow Light for this vitamin. I have been a loyal customer to Rainbow Light for many years, and buy several of their food-based vitamins to help keep my health under control. I purchased this children’s multivitamin and was very excited to find a food-based vitamin for my kiddo. When we received the vitamins, I gave one to my daughter, and she ate it. She didn’t like it too much (“Yuck, Mommy, yuck!”), but I figured I could put it in her morning oatmeal, or maybe in yogurt to get them in her. For no real reason, I glanced at the label, and realized that this vitamins weren’t 100% natural, and not completely food-based as it claims…it contains the synthetic versions of folic acid and B-12 (which is derived from cyanide) rather than the “Active” forms of the B vitamins (methylfolate, aka “folate”, and Methyl-B12). I assume Rainbow Light is using the cheaper synthetic versions of these vitamins for cost reasons, but for about 40-60% of the population, these vitamins are useless because of a mutation in the MTHFR genes. I know for a fact that my and my daughter’s body is unable to convert these synthetic vitamins into anything useful due to our MTHFR mutations, and in reality, it is harmful for us to be taking them. When I realized all of this, I promptly set up a return to get my money back. It certainly makes me rethink buying my other vitamins from this company.

I have been a Melaleuca Marketing Executive for 15 years. This, AFTER joining and being totally ripped off by the bigger so-called “wellness companies” out there. One of the biggest is, in my humble opinion, Shaklee.
Why? Because ONE of the things they promote is a product called Basic H. Now, Basic H is a great product, but costs $10 for 16 ounces. They advertise that it “makes the water wetter.” Very true, but that is because it is a SURFACTANT, which changes the chemical surface of the water. THIS is what makes the “water wetter,” and you can do exactly the SAME thing with over-the-counter dishwashing detergent.
The other one, we all know about Quixtar, and Amway — perhaps THE biggest pyramid scheme out there. They used to require weekly orders, their Nutrilite vitamin factory (I used to work there) at the time was making products for every drug store in the country, and this was BEFORE they were bought out by Amway. That said, the content of their multi-vitamins did not change. They ALSO advertise the “carbon signature” in over-the-counter vitamins. EVERY vitamin has a “carbon signature,” and will turn black (talking about multi vitamins here) when you put them in the oven. THIS IS CAUSED BY THE SUGAR CONTENT, NOT THE CARBON!! I have a degree in Food and Nutrition, specialty in Dietetics, so I have learned how to investigate the ingredients in food and supplement products.
Before I joined Melaleuca, I had already been burned by several of these companies. I swore “never again,” before I was introduced to Melaleuca.
Then, I was hit and seriously injured by a drunk driver. One of the things that happened was that the air bags and ALL of their included chemicals hit me square in the face, causing me to INHALE all of those chemicals. I was IMMEDIATELY inflicted by NUMEROUS environmental allergies. I was also a single parent and was looking to save some money.
My friend told me that these products were environmentally safe. I didn’t know if they were biodegradable, but I wanted to get rid of the phosphates in my cleaning products.
The very FIRST thing I noticed was that my clothes were immediately cleaner. I began adding one capful of Sol U Mel to every load of wash along with the products, and I noticed an immediate difference. Further, this is the ONLY product out there (OTC stuff) that can be used to remove ink stains, gum, paint, etc., and other stuff that are a nightmare to remove, WITHOUT leaving an oily residue on your body and clothing. I used the major OTC product and had to wash my clothing six or seven times to get them clean.
I also use less in the cleaning products I use. You, of course, must take the time to pay attention to the instructions. Before I use my laundry detergent, I water it down by half so that, when I use the drip-back cap I can use a whole capful and not have to worry about 1/2 capful or using too much. IT IS ALSO AVAILABLE SCENT FREE. $16.99 for a 48 oz. bottle (my price) will do 96 loads of wash. Like any other laundry product, you CANNOT overload your washing machine, and you must PAY ATTENTION to what you are doing. A 96-load bottle of Tide@ costs MUCH MORE, does NOT rinse out all the way, and leaves a LASTING scent on my clothing. Further, I had to stay with a friend who had 6 dogs, which left my clothing with a horrible scent. I had to wash my clothing THREE TIMES because I was out of Melaleuca products. I SAVED one load, washed it with Melaleuca (at the Laundromat), ADDED one capful of Sol U Mel, and it got rid of the odor completely.
There is also no residue in my fabric softener dispenser, something that Downey and other softeners use.
My son uses the acne products, they work better than anything he has tried.
I use their skin softening lotions, I love them. Also love the tooth polish. There is NOT a single product that I have not liked. I even substitute their other household cleaners in my carpet cleaner; I use less and my carpet gets cleaner and smells better. I also do not gunk up my carpet cleaner.
I recently ordered a candle set, for at least 50% less than Scentsy.
I take Melaleuca vitamins, particularly Estraval, and it is the ONLY one out there for me that works to help alleviate hot flashes and the wonderful things that go along with menopause. This IS in addition to prescribed medication, by the way.
I could go on and on, but you get the picture. It is true that some people ARE allergic to the ingredients in the products. My granddaughters cannot use some products. It is ALSO very true — and I have learned this through YEARS of poor health, reading and investigating on my own — that WHAT you EAT has a lot to do with HOW your body REACTS to topical creams.
Melaleuca is NOT a pyramid scheme. Any marketing executive will tell you that. Why? Because you are NOT forced to present the products or the program 3 to 5 times a week, you do NOT have to attend meeting after meeting after meeting at a cost, and you ARE completely able to just use the products for your own home.
I have out that I save money, my clothing is cleaner, I feel better, etc.
Also, 18 months ago, I very nearly died from an e.Coli infection in my knee joint after surgery and being infected by my roach invested apartment property (I have NEVER had roaches anywhere I live) and the little buggers crawling on my food, and believe me, they CAN do it no matter HOW MUCH you wash your produce. My infectious disease doctor is an absolute EXPERT in the area of supplements and how they can improve your health. I asked him if he was familiar with Melaleuca, he said it was a great product. I trust him implicitly. I take many more supplements — specific to certain things — and have found that my blood work is better, I feel better, and I am healthier than I have been in years.
I have NEVER, EVER tried to build a business. I would NEVER go anywhere else, and believe me, I have tried it all.
Say what you want about this company. I am healthier today because of their products. I have NEVER had a problem using 35 product points either, because it is the SAME stuff I would pay a bundle for at Wal Mart, only better quality.

Thank you! Your response put things more clear to me. I see lots of responses that are melaleuca positive and some negative. I dont know the person who wrote this article or anything, but to me it just sounds like some one who was not happy. It does not mean everyone is not. so they were looking for petty things to try and get people to join them in what ever they are doing. I am going to ask a friend about them. He is a scientist. but your testimony is very helpful. BTW I started a week ago and I feel tremendous with just the vitality pack! I have cirrhossiss and diabtes so this is a life saver for me! I am also getting my sister on it to because she has MS!

Please – everyone of you should learn a few definitions. Neither Melaleuca, Amway, Shaklee, or many others are “pyramid schemes.” The biggest identifier of a pyramid scheme is that they have no products or services. These are MLM or “multi-level marketing companies.” Some Melalueca people are claiming (because their CEO did so) that they are not MLM that they are “direct to consumer. Well apparently their CEO is not aware of what MLM is either. Because you ship direct to consumer does not mean you are not MLM. MLM is word of mouth. It is having levels of payouts (which they all do). It is referral based. Everyone has a shot at making a successful business. I am a Melaleuca preferred customer and I also rep another company called 4Life. MLM is not a bad thing. Unfortunately, like so many things in life, a few unethical or over aggressive people have given MLM a bad name.
So while you are all knocking each other around, you might get a few terms right and be nicer to each other. My wife has sensitive skin and she knows what she likes to use. There are some Melaleuca products she likes but she doesn’t use the skin care nor does she use the 4Life skin care.
Unfortunately there is a whole market about ‘being natural” that in many ways is just as biased and misrepresented as the other products. In the 70s there was a big study done that said Cyclamates would give you cancer. Perhaps. But the study done was giving rats the equivalent amount of you or me drinking 20 2-liter bottles a day for 20 years. If you drink 20 2-liter bottles of just about anything a day, maybe even water, you are bound to get something wrong with you.
I won’t even go into the Vegan thing. Good luck with that. I’ll take a nice healthy steak and green salad please.

To each his own. I use Melaleuca because it is ALL I can use after I got severe allergies from breathing in chemicals from airbags that hit me directly in the face when I was hit by a drunk driver.
I believe that reports of toxicity are greatly exaggerated, or I would be sick all the time. Also, knowing and having met Frank vanDersloot, I can tell you that IF the products in his company were toxic, they would NOT be on the market. This company has an incredible quality control record. Still, not everybody can use their products. I have been using Renew body wash for years — no skin sensitivity OR allergic reaction.
My home is cleaner, smells better, and I have NO allergic reactions.
Regarding Shaklee and Amway, I could NOT agree more. I am allergic to Shaklee products, Amway products made me very sick, and they are ALL overpriced and lie to their prospective business “partners.” Their “vitamins” are toxic, and their “testing techniques” (yeah, right) to “prove” their so-called “quality” are highly suspect. I am also allergic to Bare Minerals, and every type of skin care currently touted on television and the Internet — but have been using Melaleuca Skin Care for years with no problem. When you have an autoimmune disorder as I do (Eczema), you have to — by sheer necessity — do your homework, and I have. Either that, or spend a lot of time in a Dermatologist’s office with skin burns.
I am in Melaleuca for my own personal use. Never tried to recruit team members.

99% of breast cancer tissue contain parabens. Melaleuca Renew lotion contains two parabens. This is wrong. Green Wash BIG time.

Hi, I want to quit Melaleuca. I have forgotten monthly order more than a couple of times in the past. What they sent me automatically is always expensive and heavy ones. So, I ended up paying more than usual while usual is already expensive.
I forgot to order two months in raw during the summer while I was out of country, they sent me exactly the same products. Tough & Tender (I have tons of bottles already), Sol-U-Mel (very expensive) T-36 Melaleuca oil (who needs this 2 bottles in 2 months), Tub & Tile (does not work well), Renew Intensive Skin Therapy (that has petroleum known to cause skin cancer), and Pain-A-Trate Cream (I don’t have much pain to the degree to use up 2 tubes in 2 months.) This is crazy. I was mad I had to send them back to them. I spent shipping fees -another cost-. They don’t have good customer care. If you follow customers purchase tendency, they can widely choose what customers need instead of sending the same expensive products consecutively. So, I like to quit. But in some other reviews, there were complaints about how difficult it is to quit. In that case, I have to contact my friend who works for FTC, Federal Trade Commission.

Hello Hanna, It is not hard to quit at all. I wrote them a letter and told them I wanted to quit and included my member id. I told them not to charge my card for anything or I will go to the Better Business Bureau. Also, a little hint, Go into your account and change your expiration date on your credit card. You will notice that you can’t change the card, but if you have the wrong expiration date on there, the transaction shouldn’t go through. I also went onto my account and changed my address to a bogus one. They weren’t gonna send me stuff I didn’t want lol.

The products that you receive are what you choose yourself when you set up your account, to be sent “in emergency” in case you forget to place your order. You can simply go to your account and change your emergency order contents yourself or personalize it whenever you want. It is YOU who controls your account. No one else.
If you are away for a few months, just suspend your account until you are back.
Or change your status from a preferred customer with a loyalty rewards benefits – to a Direct customer who simply buys what they want when they want. 🙂
No need to go in and set bogus info….
Download a cancellation form from your account and fax to 1.888.528.2090 and fax prior to the 25th of any month to count for that month. It’s simple.. a no brainer…

It is very easy to close your Melaleuca account, all you have to do is send them a letter in writing by the 25th of the month saying that you would like to close your account. That is it.
I am like Noel and DEW, I’ve used Melaleuca since 1987, I love their products! I am single and purchase over 75 product points a month, but I use EVERYTHING from them. I never buy make-up, cleaners, candles, vitamins, hair products, deodorant, dental products etc from the store, just groceries. I’m sorry that some of you have had a bad experience but it sounds like some people where not completely aware of how Melaleuca works, all the information is in the membership kit and enroller should over everything with new customers.

A favorite vegan recipe: Chickenless Noodle (or rice) soup
Ingredients:
2 packages Morning Star chicken meal starters
10 cups “Better Than Bouillon” vegetarian chicken broth
1 cup sliced mushrooms (baby bellas are good)
1 cup chopped carrots
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped onion
2 -3 Tablespoons Nutritional Yeast
1 package soup noodles (star or alphabet) or rice or ~6 servings of thin spaghetti
Directions:
Cut “chicken” strips into bite sized pieces and fry until brown in Smart Balance margarine.
Combine broth and vegetables and let simmer until tender. Cook noodles or rice.
Add “chicken” and yeast. Heat through and add noodles or rice to individual bowls.
Serve with fresh bread 🙂
I have served this to my “I have to have meat” friends and they love it and swear it isn’t vegetarian!!

Well I contacted a friend from highschool that has recently posted she signed up with Melaleuca and she has been with them for a couple of months now. I am totally understanding the have to purchase 35 points a month thing (not likeing that commitment), and how only the savings will be seen if you switch to them on all your house and health needs. But my concerns are after spending the last 5 hours looking at reviews and how the pros and cons pretty much weigh the same for a first time sign up it is all to scary. I don’t work and we have a family of 5, I really want to go greener and save money and make money too. I am always looking for a work from home mom job. So really my questions to you ladies is, since they still have some products with harmful chemicals in them which is really a greener way and save money at the same time way to go? Is this company REALLY a good company to go with to make money? Do they sale themselves? I am aware that I have to work for the money to get people to sign up, but is it a really hard job to do? I don’t have time to host parties and drive all over town to meet and greet people. There has been so many people in the reviews wanting to cancel their memberships that, that is a scary signup as well. I guess I am just really confused at this time. I haven’t signed up just yet, but I was about to earlier today. Sure was a good thing I haven’t until I look at and get further reviews.

Wow!!!! April, you have amazing etiquette and grace because that first person defending Melaleuca was pretty “passionate” about making you like the company. LOL! Geez… anyway, I love how “SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN” is thrown around (not just in this instance) like it means something. When people say, well, it’s “scientifically proven that ….” I listen politely and then ask, “Who funded the study?” I believe the Corn Refiners Association and large soda companies were trying to convince the American public that High Fructose Corn Syrup was “nutritionally the same as sugar” with their “scientifically proven” studies as well. Yet, many neutral doctors, nutritionists, and neuro-degenerative disease specialists have written countless literature to the contrary and about the detrimental effects that AGEs (advanced glycation end products) such as HFCS have on the human body. To that first commenter – do you really think a company would scientifically prove data other than what is in its self interest? I’m not accusing Melaleuca of any wrongdoing or misrepresentations, but how probable is it that a company is going to announce, “Well, ya know, I know my ingredients are not safe, and will probably kill you … my scientific studies prove so!” UH …. NOT.
Anyway, I was too approached by a Melaleuca business opportunity as well. I don’t particularly care for how elusive the rep was regarding the details of the company’s products either.Since the questions that I had about the company were not so easily answered in the hour or so long presentation, I set out on the internet to find them. Needless to say, it has been very informative. I told the sales rep that I more than likely would not be interested in becoming a customer; I’m a pretty primitive individual. By that, I mean, all of my cleaning products are various combinations of any of the following ingredients : Castille soap, soapnuts, lemon juice, baking soda, apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, lemon oil, lavender oil, eucalyptus oil, and/or filtered water from my berkey water filter. I have been more than content. How’s that for green? = )
Furthermore, I am very happy with my vitamin selections, most of them came from Shane Ellison’s “Over the Counter Natural Cures” (they cost less than $10 a piece). Keeping most aspects of life simple seems to be effective.
It appears that with Melaleuca, one just can’t be a customer who buys small quantities of products inconsistently. If that is true, that’s pretty unfortunate because I think the company may be forgetting that these products are “induced consumption” household goods; they will change in relation to income. Who can afford to be trapped into spending, especially during a recession.
My great grandmother who lived well into her late nineties used to tell me before she passed, “don’t let your education outsmart your common sense.” If your common sense tells you that you can get the same effect by making it yourself at a fraction of the cost, or if the business makes you commit to buying things that you don’t want every month, then there isn’t enough “scientific proof” in this world to outsmart those decisions.
Thanks for the blog, by the way, because it sheds some light on the dark enigma of Melaleuca products for those of us who haven’t jumped in.
P.S. You can also lower your cholesterol with Brewer’s yeast. People hear high cholesterol and get freaked out, but cholesterol is essential for your body. Rather than having your cholesterol levels tested, test your “Oxidized Cholesterol LDL.” You can get it done by Shiel Laboratories and you go to http://www.shiel.com for more information. Just curious as to how you know anything about these chemicals? A cosmetic database might give you an overview of the chemicals used but not necessarily what they do and how they react with other chemicals. Cocamidopropyl Betaine is called a skin sensitizer because it reacts with harmful metal ionic compounds that sit on your skin causing the irritation in the first place (nontheless cause cancer). If you have an allergic reaction to this compound it isn’t because of where it comes from or how it’s made, you body just doesn’t like it. You can get these reactions from even the most organic compounds put into any type of wash. It’s all in what works for you. I don’t believe bashing a whole company because of one product you didn’t agree with wasn’t working for you.
Not to mention the website you are looking at these compound’s chemical properties on might have some good information but the website is like wikipedia where people can put in the opinionated knowledge rather than actual chemical property information. PEG-80 Sorbitan laurate is a mild surfactant again, yes…however the reason why it can be harmful are due to the IMPURITIES of the compound. Not necessarily the compound itself. This can be harmful to certain aspects of your body, not necessarily your skin. It’s no different than the entero-bacteria needed in your intestines that if placed in your vagina cause a bladder infection. Certain parts of your body aren’t supposed to be exposed to certain chemicals no matter if they are completely organic or synthesized. Keep in mind the medicine you take is synthesized as well if you go completely against synthesis or man made products. Hope you do not take ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
You have to keep in mind the reactions these compounds take part in when exposed to other compounds that are present inside and out of your body. The lotion you use from one store could have a compound in it that if using a product with PEG-80 Sorbitan laurate would cause an irritating by product you wouldn’t expect.
Make sure you look at the compounds as a whole, and not just single out certain aspects of these compounds without knowing what it’s reacting with to cause harmful effects.

Thank you for the information. I was more upset about this company claiming to be better than others and really they use the same ingredients as an over-the-counter product. I really thought they were too expensive and I was told that all I would have to do is switch stores. Well I don’t spend $50-$75 a month on personal products and that is what they wanted me to commit to and if you didn’t commit to it they automatically charge your card and still send you products. That is what I mostly didn’t like about it. I was also told that some of the reps family had allergies and it was cured by using these products. Sounded like a sale gimmic to me. I understand fully about the chemicals in the products. Thank you again for you opinion.

All I know is, now that I am using Melaleuca antibacterial hand soap, bath soap, hair shampoo and dish washing liquid. My hands no longer break out, blister or itch anymore. What a blessing. Love this stuff. Whatever they have in those store products, Melaleuca doesn’t. Thank you Melaleuca if your reading. Member since 6/2010 been using soaps since day one. This was the first test and they passed with flying colors.

Hi. You have over 370 products to choose from, not just personal care items. There are 5 product divisions. If you do not want to order every month, then be a direct customer and order whenever. There is no auto ship.

Exactly. I am DEATHLY allergic to CoQ10 in ANY form!! My doctor has never heard of this, but I happen to have a very sensitive system.
Don’t bash the whole company. If you got a bad experience from a Marketing Executive, ALL you have to do is call them. Believe me, they DO care and they WILLj solve the problem, even if it means ejecting the member.

Sorry some of you have a negative opinion of Melaleuca – my family and I have been using the products for 4 years now – and yes my daughter’s eczema is gone and my husbands asthma has improved since switching to these products – my mother and I have also been taken off of our cholesterol and blood pressure medicine since using their vitamins and supplements – the business is just a bonus – I just tell friends and family about Melaleuca – they become members and the checks come in monthly – I have had nothing but positive experiences with Melaleuca and so have the people that I have introduced to Melaleuca. If you don’t like the company – that is okay – you are entitled to your opinion – but it is a great company and the products are wonderful.

I understand both sides of the Melaleuca opinions. I have been a customer since 2003. Yes at times it is difficult to make the product points because some months you don’t need the 35 points and then some months you may need more. I never got over 5 people to sign up and since they have all discontinued their memberships. I never thought I was going to quit my job and become rich, maybe supplement my income, but that never happened either. Now me myself, I don’t like all the products, so I choose what I like with Melaleuca and the rest I buy elsewhere. It is a personal choice of course. Sometimes I order products for my friends whom don’t want to join but may like one or two of their products to get my points for the month. I have alletgies to soap powders and find that the detergent that Melaleuca sells is good for me and I do save money there. We have well water and no more of those pink stains. So the laundry products I like over the other options from the stores. I have a higher end dishwasher that states to use powders and without all the additives so I buy the 7th generation products, Melaleuca only sells liquid form. I only wear makeup on special occasions,so I don’t waste money on that. We have psoriasis in my family, and the Melaleuca products help control the condition so its good. The renew lotion with some extra tea tree oil added is a good mosquito repellent. Skin so soft is more expensive, and the rest are more chemicals. I am a tea totaler so I like Melaleuca tea bags, prefer Herbal. Melaleuca changed to all tooth polish, which I hate, so I buy else where. Have contemplated a time or 2 to cancel my membership and I still may when I find something better and just as or more effective. But for now, the products that I do purchase are a better choices for me than what I can get in the stores. I am thankful that I do not have asthma, high blood pressure and only a mild case of psoriasis. Anyway just thought I’d share my thoughts.

Hi everyone! I am writing this just for the info toeveryone. As I sit writing this from my bed, I am recovering from a severe allergic reaction to meleleuca products. I was rushed to the ER at 3 am this morning with rashes, vomiting, diahrea, black outs and with my throat swelling shut! I know for certain it was from the products I used mainly the Renew lotion as I liberally applied to dry areas as directed on the bottle. Woke to swollen hands and feet, followed by the other symptoms above. I have never had an allergic reaction to anything before. The ER drs also told me this was a reaction to thoseproducts as well. I will see an allergist soon to determine what exactly in those products I am allergic to. In the meantime I must now carry an epi-pen everywhere I go because another reaction could be fatal according to the drs. I am not against melaleuca but I say all this to say be aware of what u are using and all of the ingredients. I did like those products I purchased and they worked great, but unfortunately if I want to live I can no longer use them.

It may very well be the melaleuca oil. I cannot tolerate eucalyptus oil – it causes my throat to constrict, even though it should have the opposite effect! My grandfather smoked unfiltered Camel cigarettes for 70 years and had less emphysema than my mother who never smoked(my grandmother made him “go ‘moke outside,”so I don’t think it was second-hand smoke in my mother’s case). I believe each one of us is unique in how we react to products and ingredients. Use your common sense is the best advice for anyone.

Melaleuca is full of toxins; can’t be sold in Europe or Canada. Only the US FDA would approve the chemicals they use in their body or food products. This brand is not for people who usually shop at their local Whole Foods or co-op; this stuff is a step up for Target and Walmart shoppers. Although their cleaners are good. They should just stick to cleaning supplies and no one would be so confused…

In regards to your comment Melaleuca is not sold in Canada and Europe. That is false. Melaleuca operate in 18 counties across the globe including Canada, Germany and the UK… very successfully
In response to Melaleuca’s products not being FDA approved… wrong again. The products that make health claims that need approval y the FDA have been approved.

I have been a customer of Melalueca for almost two years. Before using Melalueca cleaning products I had a chronic cough. I have noticed since using their cleaning products that I do not cough much anymore. However, I do understand, as the Chem Major mentioned previously, people can be sensitive or allergic to different things, natural or not, i.e., allergic reactions to pollen, or some spice or food, even if has been taken right off the plant. On the flip side, some people have no reactions to anything. Anyway, I also like the cleaning products because they are concentrated. For instance, for a regular size laundry wash load, you only need 1/2 ounce of detergent-1 ounce if its heavily soiled. In other words, the products may look expensive at first glance, but what is happening is that water is not added to the products; they are not “watered down” so you do have to use as much. I also love the dental products. Since I have been using Melaeuca dental products, two different dentists have told me that my mouth and teeth are really clean and one told me that whatever it is I’m doing, to keep doing it. There are other products that I use that I like and buy on a regular basis. I will be honest to say that there are some that I can’t use because of the fragrance that is added as I am sensitive to some but not all perfumes. However, when I go the the grocery store and pass by the cleaning aisle I always think to my self “thank goodness I don’t have to go down that aisle anymore and have to smell all those cleaning products and to into a spasmatic coughing spell.”

Wow! I’m so glad I stumbled upon this post. I recently signed up with Melaleuca to try to find an alternative treatment for my son’s ADHD. I was actually online looking for answers when I came across a post on Circle of Moms about how removing toxins from her home and using Melaleuca’s vitamins helped her daughter who is no longer on medication for her ADHD. The post had no mention of Melaleuca anywhere. In the post she put her email address and offered to share her experience. So I emailed her because I was amazed that her daughter was no longer on medication for ADD. I wanted to hear more of her story. She emailed me back and told me to call her so I did, but when I called her the phone call became more than just talk about remedies for ADD/ADHD. It soon morphed into a conversation about workng from home. I was also told how the products have helped people with eczema, infertility, high blood pressure, and more. Her talk alone made me nervous, but I was desperate to try something other than prescription medication to help with my son’s ADHD so I decided it couldn’t hurt to try. After I signed up, I kept getting phone calls from her everyday prompting me to work on the business aspect of the company. She wanted me to hurry up and try to sign up my family and friends. It finally got to the point where I told her to back off and told her I wanted to cancel. She was so apologetic and told me she didn’t mean to push, but I think my mind is made up. I also don’t believe I can meet the purchase point requirement each month. Even after calculating the vitamins I would order from them it only came up to 28 product points for a total of $45 already. And the fact that she kept pushing me is making me nervous about the products really working at all. Another thing she told me before I signed up, “How would you like it if you could make $5000 a month by doing absolutely nothing? Would you still go to school if you could earn that kind of money from home?” Come to find out after I enrolled she told me she only makes $300 a month. I’m not out to make quick cash. I’ll be going to school full time for my BA in Computer Science. There is so much more to this story. I just don’t have time to post it all right now. I wanted to share my experience and I’m hoping this thread isn’t dead and I still hear from other people.

Thank you for telling your story. There is no way you are going to make $5, 000 a month with them part time, maybe if you put 10 hours a day into it for 7 days. I was speaking with someone from another company and they have been doing there business for 4 years part time and are only making about $500 a month. This thread is definitely not dead. Good luck in getting your Computer Science degree. I am 34 years old and looking to go back to school. I am currently a stay at home mom. Much luck to you!!!

Anne, have you found the solution to your son’s ADHD? I believe this has to do with toxins. The documentary on McDonalds “SuperSize ME” shows clearly the connection.
There is a wonderful product I promote, but you can buy elsewhere, for detoxifing: Dr Miller’s Holy Tea. The battle will not be easy, but possible. Hope it helps

Basically sounds to me like most people don’t know what they are signing up for. Sounds like the products are good, Seems to me most of the people on here enjoy the products and the business. Sounds like the complainers didn’t read their contract before they signed. Don’t blame your ignorance on someone else. Sure it was hard to cancel, sure there products aren’t all green, sure you read the contract? I mean you may not think your bashing the company, but when you work for a competing company and post links to(JR Watkins) ALL of your testimony becomes INVALID! Nice try…you must work in advertising/journalism, or sabotage industry……I look at when a person starts a blog, says they are not “bashing” them, but does, and then says here take a look at this……Ummmm RED FLAG! People need to go to http://www.ewg.org/skindeep to check out their personal care products and http://www.ewg.org/cleaners to check out their cleaners. I sell Avaandersonnontoxic.com/wendyporter and the products are amazing. You can actually read and understand the ingredient list. The cleaners are not on EWG yet, because the company is so new, but all you have to do is go on the website and read the ingredients and you will understand why they are safe to use. Wake up world!!

I appreciate how respectful you are of everyone’s opinions and posts here ayedsena. I am always looking for green products and ideas on better products. However, I have recently signed up with Melaleuca about 6 months ago and I can say that it has greatly impacted mine and my families life for the better. No “GIMMICK” here. In response to ingredients being linked to allergic reactions, just about anything can trigger an allergic reaction. Peanuts and wheat have had caused severe allergic reactions in people. Whats more natural than those ? Whole wheats are recommended for better digestive and overall health. Also certain seasons are considered “Allergy Seasons” because of an over abundance of pollen. I have done a lot of research before I joined this team. Do your Green stores have a money back guarentee also? I have had nothing but awesome customer service, and they are focused on maintaining happy customers. I called our cell phone carrier and got shuffled around for about an hour and a half just to come to the same conclusion we proposed in the first place. Which is what you get with most places, NOT Melaleuca. As for having to spend every month I propose two ideas…#1 You dont need toothpaste, body wash, deoderant, laundry detergent,cleaners, dishwasher soap, cereals, and vitamins every month? I now have a family of 8, but even before I could easily spend $50-$60 on those items on a month to month basis. (Now we spend about $150-$200). I calculated out the costs and iT IS CHEAPER when you do your math. I have and Engineer for a husband so he is all about numbers and doing your research. He believes in the company as well. #2 I also have a business that I had invested a lot of money in. (Daycare), IF YOU ARE DOING YOUR BUSINESS RIGHT there will be an upfront investment and that will be ongoing during all the time you are in business. You have to maintain your business with supplies, advertising, equipment,employees in some occasions, etc. so why is a $29 start up fee and monthly order of $50-60 considered a bad investment? If you are going tolive up to the excuse that you cant afford it in the “RECESSION” then get a normal job at McDonalds or something. Or make another investment and go to school. Anything worthwhile will take an investment. Melaleuca does have a way you can buy directly without being Prefered but you save more on making a commitment to shop every month. There are numerous companies that have the same type of monthly shopping rewards program. In closing I have made money with Melaleuca it more than covers what we spend a month, so saying that you cant make a good income is not valid. It depends on your personal desire and motivation. Just because you dont agree with it doesnt necessarily make it bad. I do respect that you are very concious about what products you use and that is good. You failed to mention the lack of Type A carcinogens in Melaleuca products. That is why they state Johnson and Johnson is harmful.Its because of the formaldyhyde used in Johnson and Johnson. I would elaborate but I think I could go on forever. I recommend doing your own research and not just base your opinions on a few links. In closing my family has had better health, and has benefited overall from this company and I think results speak louder than skepticism.

By the way Im sorry about some of the typos in the previous paragraph. Please dont bash a good company. Unless you really know everything about the company, which I doubt you do, theres no reason passing such a condemning judgement about them.

If you do some research about Melaleuca you will find a lot of negative things, as with any company. I am stating my opinion on what I went through with Melaleuca and what I didn’t like about them. Have you read any of my other blog posts or have you just focused on one. I am currently signed up with a company called Watkins, they are a very good company. I love their products. I just didn’t feel the same with Melaleuca and I have the right to state that. I have been a member of the site cafemom and belong to a green group on there. If you think I bashed Melaleuca, you should hear these people talk about how green they are NOT. As far as Watkins, the thing I liked the most is that you were not obligated to buy something every month. You have the freedom to shop whenever you want. I am not promoting any company right now, I am not interested in MLM’s. It just is not where the money is!! You are lucky that you are making money with this. I don’t have the time. I am currently a stay at home mom and maybe I have too much time on my hands lol. I am also looking to go back to school for Web design and multimedia. Good luck with Melaleuca, just wasn’t for me.

Thank you Rhi – I am always amazed when people complain about the expense with Melaleuca – I don’t know any other store that offers a 100% money back, satisfaction guarantee on all their products – for a full 60 days -and 90 days on the vitamins – you don’t like them – you get all your money back! Plus – gives you $100 in free products and 15% back in loyalty shopping dollars. As far as value – when I can do over 100 washes for less than $16 and get 96 fl. oz. of window cleaner for $5.69 and 96 fl.oz. of tub cleaner for the same – and I don’t have to worry about “blowing up” because I am mixing caustic chemicals – I consider that a good deal! The elimination of statin drugs and my family’s allergies and eczema is priceless – I make over $2000 a month with Melaleuca – but if I never earned another penny, I would still shop at this store!

I appreciate all of the comments that I have read on this thread. I was approached by a friend from college who wanted me to join his business. After a few days of phone tag, he put me on a 3 way call with the person who got him involved. Of course the whole idea of having a part time business with a residual income is enticing. I just dove in. I signed up! The best way to find out about things is to get in the trenches, is what I thought. I bought the “Value Pack”
I am a single person with a roommate & I buy, Organic, Natural products whenever possible. When I buy food. I buy organic. When I buy skin products I buy: 1-Organic, if that is not an option it must also be part of other restrictive standards: 2-Not Tested on Animals, 3-Biodegradable, 4-Renuable/Sustainable resources. So I buy: Dr. Bronners, Tom’s of Maine, Kiss My Face, Jason, and others… you catch my drift.
I am in favor of Standards and I believe in regualtion to protect our citizenry.
What I find alarming about the Melaleuca products is that they use, in all of their documentation, very allusive verbiage. “Scientifically Proven” & “GREEN”. What does that mean? Who are the scientists? What have they studied and who pays them? Green? because their products are “Concentrated?” Those are all completely obtuse generalities. There is no “SUBSTANCE” to those claims… they are MEANINGLESS. That bothered me. Instinctually I felt uncomfortable about the products since I could not find substative information about the products.
i told my friends leader that in a conversation & the next call I got was from a person at the next level.. What bothered me was that there are only 2 products out of 350+ that are organic (crackers) & one other thing. I told them that I liked the business model, I mean really, if you are going to purchase products to do laundry, to clean house with and use regularly… and if indeed they are better for the environment, your health and our planet… why wouldn’t you want them to be products that in so purchasing them… you pay yourself back for your consumer loyalty?
I told my friend when I signed up. You know, this company is asking for your customer loyalty. It is that simple. So I wanted to try their products. Remeber all we have as consumers is our buying power. So… when you purchase something, you in essence are saying that you agree with the way they manufactured it, how they pay their employees, how they extract that product and you are VOTING that the company meets your ethical and moral standards. If you are a distributor, you must really BELIEVE that the company is in earnest, or else you are just a greedy, PIMP, selling stuff for personal gain without regard to how it was acquired.
I am CANCELLING my account tomorrow morning with him.
It has been a month + a week or so.
I cannot replace the superior products that I do buy, with products that are as harmful and made of the same chemical based ingredients that you find in Proctor & Gamble products that are made with GMO, petroleum based & animal tested products that I so abhor!
They should think about doing GOOD & not just making money. Our natural resources are precious and need to be protected and we will never improve our society unless we learn to be the care takers of the planet.
BTW… He is a MIT ROMNEY supporter… would like to do away with EPA standards & FDA regulations, so that he could put as many pollutants into waterways & atmosphere in the large scale production plants necessary to create more Melaleuca products.

Ouch Rocky… in response to you comment about animal testing- did you ever ask Melaleuca their position on animal testing, or are you going by hearsay, because I find many of your comments above to be very misleading and misinformed.
I spent alot of years trying to improve my critical state of health, and I did alot of homework. Used many products, did mail orders, had companies even courier their products to me… Melaleuca has got to be one of the first companies who could provide me with info in writing, backed by scientific publications with many independent studies from various scientists and universities backing their claims.

Melaleuca has gone public with their stance on animal testing.When I questioned it because of hear-say, I was happy to receive a letter in my mailbox within one week, duly signed by the president and CEO himself.

” Dear Donna______I am writing in response to your questions regarding Melaleuca’s position on animal testing. Let me begin by telling you how much we appreciate having you as a Melaleuca customer and by reassuring you that Melaleuca has never tested its personal care or home care products on animals, nor will we ever do so!
” Melaleuca is absolutely against cruelty to animals! We have never allowed nor will we ever tolerate the cruel treatment of any animal in the forwarding of our business. I grew up on a farm and throughout my childhood I had several animal friends whom I affection for and who I feel returned that loyalty and affection, including several dogs, cats, cows, a horse, and a baby pet hawk that I raised after it had fallen from its nest. I nurtured that hawk until it was old enough to turn loose. Animals have played an important role in my life, and today my wife and I (and our kids) own two dogs, a cat, and several cows and horses.
” I have a confession to make: While I will usually carry a spider outside and turn it loose rather than smash it, as I write this letter, I am wearing a leather belt and leather shoes, and yesterday I had a hamburger for lunch and fish for dinner. ” Our first run-in with PETA occurred in 1993. That year we were preparing to bring out a new dog shampoo. In its annual questionnaire, PETA asked us once again to commit to not test any of our products on animals. We told them that we would not, except, of course, we planned to test our new dog shampoo on dogs; i.e. wash a few dogs to make sure it performed properly. PETA insisted that any testing was prohibited–even shampooing dogs! We argued at length that we were not hurting the dog, only shampooing it. We found that absurd! And we were eventually removed from their list in 1997.
” Since then, PETA has found us in violation of their policies in two other instances. One instance occurred when a company called Natural World was advertising that its cleaning products were safe for children to play with and even drink. Hey so i called Melaleuca cause you know you can ask any questions & also did a little research on “tetrasodium edta”… It is a preservative that has a 36month shelf life but not formaldehyde or a known carcinogen. It is chelating agents which softens hard water, bring the PH levels in balance, so that the soap is effective to break down the dirt/grim to remove it gently & in the process it binds metal ions making them inactive.

Just for the record, Tetrasodium EDTA is a preservative that’s made from the known carcinogen, formaldehyde and sodium cyanide. It is also a penetration enhancer, meaning it breaks down the skin’s protective barrier, going right into your bloodstream. Many companies trying to be “natural” will use Tetrasodium EDTA instead of parabens to preserve their products. To me, this sounds no better.
After taking a look around, that cosmeticsinfo.org site that was referred to by Harmony looks straight out of the P&G propaganda mill! Ick. No thanks.

There are no distributors of Melaleuca products. You buy directly from the manufacturer. It’s simply happy customers who share the store they shop from with other interested people. They open their account with Melaleuca so they can shop direct with Melaleuca (the manufacturer) – as Direct customers they can buy what they want, when they want with no obligation (exceptional products at reasonable prices).
Melaleuca offers a Loyalty rewards program for more frequent shoppers who buy from them every month. By buying a m/m amount (35 pts approx. $55-65/mo) then that qualifies them for the loyalty rewards program and offers them great benefits for their loyalty. They receive benefits that they’d never get from traditional stores and better pricing.

Sorry to hear about all your bad experiences I can personally say I signed up to help a family member out and I have had no issues with the company so far. I spend the same amount of money buying products that I am happier with and the ones I don’t like I don’t get. Which trust me I don’t like the oral health care line, body washes etc. but what I have found I love are the products that I am currently buying. I wont tell which as I don’t want you think I am trying to sell the company but what I do know is even some of the other companies all natural things can be harmful to humans. Try taking a few college science classes and you will discover this. I hate to break it to you but unless you are growing it yourself there is still a chemist behind the product all you can do is select the ones that work best for you and your family and have the least toxic chemicals.
Myself and my sons all have sensitive skin and so far the products I have selected to use have done wonders… no more rashes and no more eczema bumps so what I do know is the what products I have found I like I am sold on and I too don’t work but attend classes my husband is the only provider for a family of five and when we did the math and compared the items we liked to the items we were already buying even after shipping it was comparable. We were not promised it would save us money or make us tons of money. What we were promised is like with any other business; we could choose just how much we wanted to get out of it. I have currently being with them for over six months now still have not signed up anyone and don’t plan on it not that I am saying I wouldn’t be willing to if someone approached me but I won’t bug or pressure them into it. All I was asked to do is that if I do like it to share it with my family and friends which is what I do. But than if you think about it we all do any time we find a product we really like if the topic comes up but if it don’t I don’t go out of my way to do so unless it really did amaze me; and if they want to try it; I get it for them, if they don’t it does not bother me its their choice, I don’t pressure and don’t beg. Matter of fact the only time I have even spoken about it outside of my inner circle is now and once when someone was talking about how much she hated not being able to find a cleaner that would work on something and I told her I loved mine and so far was the only one I could find that did not leave behind a residue. So as I said before it all depends on who you get and compared to what you buy in the local stores the products have so far been a healthier choice for me and my family and we are only spending what we would have spent in the stores.

Hi everyone. I would like to express my opinion if i may. I am really excited about Melaleuca. My sister has been doing it as a business for about a year and a half, and in that time she has grown it to over a six figure income. They give her a car allowance of $400 every month and her last 3 checks have been $10k, $14k, and $12k. and she is not slowing down. She makes that kind of money because the company has bonus pools and different incentives for building your business. However, as her business stands right now, she can go on vacation for a month and because the company has a 95% re-order rate. Her residual income for the month would be $5,000. Not to shabby for doing nothing huh?
I personally have been a customer for over a year. I have a 14 month old boy and it was important to us to detoxify our home. Their cleaning and laundry products are fabulous!
I understand your complaint about some of the ingredients, and I wish they were all natural and organic, etc. I know they are not perfect, but i do believe they are working towards being perfect. Also they do say science based. And yes they DO have the scientific papers published. I have read them. I am going to “Launch” on Saturday were they will be unveiling new products and I’m really excited about it.
I would like to clarify a couple of things I have read on here.
#1: Melaleuca is NOT an MLM. There are no multi levels of distribution. The manufacturer sells direct to the consumer. Its called consumer direct marketing. If you look at most business models they actually ARE pyramids. Can the guy in the mail room ever earn more than the CEO? Nope! Well in Melaleuca you can earn more than the person that enrolled you. That certainly is NOT the way MLM companies are set up. Melaleuca just has a very unique business model, and ppl don’t know how to categorize us. So they throw us in the bucket with pyramid schemes and MLM companies. Its sad really, and the hardest part of doing this as a business is creating that para dyne shift so ppl see you for what you truely are. A proven, 27 year old, Billion dollar, dept free company that makes GREAT products. Maybe not 100% but so what? Ok, so I would only use 85% of them. Show me another company that pays out 51% of every dollar earned BACK to their loyal customers!
I had a wonderful business doing architecture before the bubble burst back in ’08. Since then I have really struggled financially. I now have a family to provide for and I am just SO HAPPY that my sister introduced me to Melaleuca! The sky is the limit!
#2: I would like to say simply that the 35 point monthly commitment is WHY Melaleuca works so well as a business. Its the most ingenious part of the company! It is WHY the company has a 95% re-order rate, and it is also WHY if you do this as a business your products will be at your door, and more importantly your CHECK will be in the mail!
In closing I would like to add that in order to be successful in this you have to have a passion for it. This is not a bad company. We have testimonial after testimonial of how ppls lives are greatly enhanced by using our products. Is there room for improvement? ABSOLUTELY! Is it a VERY affordable VERY viable “Plan B?” You BET it is!!! And in this economy? That is saying allot!!!!

I also joined this “green” company on the insistance of my niece telling me what a clean company it was and no chemicals in their products. I got my first order and when I opened the box I got an immediate headache from the smell of fragrance! Gosh when did a fragrance become non toxic. I found it very difficult on their website to figure out how to cancel the membership and they still sent me another order after I finally got it cancelled and I sent back the procucts at my expense and they kept calling me telling me I owed them money and I sent them a nasty email asking them how could I possibly owe them money when they charged my credit card for the order and then I paid almost $10 of my money to ship back something I did not order. The 35 points they require is confusing to say the least as I thought that meant you just spend $35, no that is not the case. So what I found was it usually took an actual expense of $50 to $70 to get that many points as each item has a point value so you have to spend much more in actuall dollars to get the 35 points and I did not like the idea of being forced to buy something each month. What about free commerce? I am so glad I am done with this company and will never go back. I am not learning to make my own soap and personal care products.

I wish Melaleuca would get “cleaner’ with all the ingredients. Suralose and acesulfame potassium in many food/nutritional products. Ammonia in antiperspirant. Dimethecoin, petrolatum, parben in Renew lotion. Fragrancae and parfume listed in several products. As people become more educated on ingredients Melaleuca will have to get better or customers will leave and Melaleuca will have to enroll more and more to keep pace. Right now 4% of customers leave each month which equates to approximately just under 48% of customers which were on the books as of January 1 of any given year. Get more towards the really safe/organic type on ingredients and Melaleuca would the best. Until then, not so. My opinion.

I think it is very important to understand the ingredients that Melaleuca does in fact use. They have teamed with some of the top scientists & universities around the world to develop these safe products. They would never use an ingredients that will harm us or the environment. You mention sucralose, and it’s dangers. You should ask more questions instead of coming to conclusions, because their science in their products have been “first in the worls discoveries” which is why they have so many patented products. Let me educate you a little on the sucralose in their products.
Sucralose is made from sugar. Melaleuca replaces a hydroxyl group with a chloride (salt).
Result is a sweeter part of sugar without the calories and the sugar part.
This has been tested extensively over a 20 year period and the amounts tested were over 100 times more than what a normal adult would consume in one day., and even at 100 times- it was still safe for even pregnant women and children.
Because it doesn’t have the sugar part, it won’t affect insulin productions.

I am torn…..I love their shampoo and conditioner and their eye-liner. I wish those were the only things I could buy without having the 35point commitment. I cant afford to keep stock-piling all of the other crap just to keep up with the points. I dont care for their cleaning products because I clean my house with vinegar and baking soda, just like my grandma used to because she was poor and just like my mom used to because we all have allergies to bleach and other cleaners. All I want is their dang shampoo and eye-liner….I am ultimately going to cancel because I am having a baby and thus quitting my job and my husband doesnt make enough for us to pay $70 a month in crazy supplies…..

After being a happy Melaleuca customer for 9 years, my son-in law sent me the link for this page. Having been through cancer, I was lead to Melaleuca- safer for your home products. After reading your blog, I quickly realized that you didn’t have all information that you would need to make a well-informed choice for your family. Someone SERIOUSLY needs to understand what SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN means! They did THEIR OWN RESEARCH, not INDEPENDENT research!
First of all, they use GMO soy in their shake packets. Soy is problematic for a lot of people and has a direct effect upon the human body. Not to mention if they were so CONCERNED with HEALTH/WELLNESS they would use NON-GMO ingredients!
They disclose CERTAIN ingredients and if you UNDERSTAND SCIENCE, you would check out MSDS sheets on the ingredients.
They use A HIGH PERCENTAGE of KNOWN ALLERGENS in their products!
Also, what HEALTH & WELLNESS company uses a UNNAMED SOLVENT in their cleaning products.
People who are ‘touting’ this are either hungry for money ie medical professionals as its an easy source of passive revenue or a bored housewife who isn’t trained in the most elementary sciences aka chemistry.
Not to mention they CLAIM that their fabric sheets don’t contain FORMALDEHYDE like other companies. WRONG! Other companies use CHLOROFORM not FORMALDEHYDE! Also, what chemical is used to deposit the OILY residue on the towel ‘loops’ to make them appear ‘soft’!
As President of a medical foundation we have INDEPENDENTLY researched their products/ingredients, and it’s safer for the ENVIRONMENT not HUMAN HEALTH!
It’s a MULTILEVEL Marketing ‘company’ and you are FORCED to DRAG/LIE/COERCE others to come under your name, for that SMALL override of their sales.

I just don’t find Melaleuca’s products to be very natural. I can find other products online that are so much better. I often use soap.com and vitacost.com for my natural products. I also love amazon.com. I am not required to spend a certain amount each month and I also have the freedom to choose from different products that I love. Melaleuca is not on my list of companies I care to purchase products from. I am sure some of Melaleuca’s products are ok, just the whole business idea and the products I received were not very natural. I have to admit though, I do use tea tree oil for various things. Thank you!

It is clear that you know little or nothing about a fine company. I have been using these products for well over 15 years and if I have a problem with ANY product, they GLADLY take it back for a full refund. My clothing and linens are cleaner, I feel better, am healthier, etc. They DO NOT advertise themselves as a “Totally Green Company,” NOR do they advertise themselves as “100% BIODEGRADABLE,” so do your homework.
It is also VERY clear that you are trying to solicit members for your so-called “foundation,” so be honest about it.

It makes me very glad I trusted my intuition when I was going to use Melaleuca for a career…. I really need to be able to work from home and daycare just didn’t work out but I knew there was something not right when they wouldn’t answer a lot of questions about the things I asked what ingredients and stuff! I’m looking more into things like that put me on the path to figure out what GMOwell for that I was never even aware of..now I’ll try to find anything and everything natural and good for our home and family I make my own cleaning supplies and beauty supplies out of coconut oil sweet almond oil jojoba oil grapeseed oil essential oils and vinegar baking soda and peroxide!! Wow…thanks April; am I ever glad I found this page! I have just ALMOST signed up with Meleleuca after logging into the webcast info session. I am very much into returning to truly pure, all natural, high quality, completely cruelty free (vegan, preferably) products. I, too, cannot afford to spend $75 a month on personal care products. It’s very frustrating….I have been trying to find a means of earning supplemental income (I already work a full time office job) where I can work my own hours on any given night or weekend day. Well, I guess it’s back to the drawing board, although, I will take a look at Watkins and others mentioned here. Also, thanks for the vitacost.com tip; I will check that out! I also love Rainbow Light supplements. Also love Beauty Without Cruelty products. Perhaps my stragegy should be to find a higher paying office job that would allow me to purchase the green products, get a massage now and then, basically be able to fully engage in healthy living-wellness without always being so financially strapped! This would also allow me to donate to animal protection causes, etc.

I”m cancelling my Melaleuca account ASAP. I don’t care how many people buy it or how “SUPERIOR” these products are over others (what the heck does that even mean?!) IF THERE ARE CHEMICALS IN MY PRODUCTS, I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. PERIOD. There’s no arguing that.

Water is a chemical. Melaleuca will never use an ingredient that will hurt us or the environment. They couldn’t make safer claims if they were not true. They would be sued. I was critically ill and in hospital for over 2 1/12 years. Melaleuca supplements improved my health and I was able to get healthy again and off of 23 medications. I’ve been a happy customer for over 9 years. My daughter no longer uses asthma puffers since we replaced our home products with Melaleuca’s Ecosense laundry and cleaning, we got rid of all my allergies in our family, after 30+ years battling with eczema it disappeared after 2 weeks by switching my laundry soap-body wash and using their Renew Cream. Oh I’m informed. It sounds like I’m way more informed then you are. If you truly understand what you are consuming and what Melaleuca products are made of…I think you would change your mind as well. Have you read the ingredient labels?!? “Grease fighting agent” is NOT an ingredient. Go look on your products. See if you are happy with the ingredient list. And if you call them to ask them what is in their products they tell you “Its a trade secret and proprietary info…”. I don’t want to mix my own concoction and steal their potion. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT IS IN MY PRODUCTS I’M PURCHASING!! And if you think companies will NOT put any harmful chemicals in their products, you are crazy. I ask you to read “Not Just a Pretty Face” it’s on amazon.com. It will BLOW your mind.
And about your “they wouldn’t put harmful chemicals in products, bc they would get sued”….I ask you to Google: Melaleuca lawsuits. It’s mindboggling to me how people are not informed and continue to purchase from such ‘green washing’ companies such as Melaleuca.

Wow! I am glad I stumbled upon this post. My sister just signed up to sell Melaleuca and has been pressuring me to do it. I keep refusing. I think she is nuts.
I currently clean with only natural products that cost less than anything else I have ever purchased. For less than $20, I have enough cleaning supplies to last 3 months.
For windows, I use lemon juice or vinegar and newspaper (you can also use the pages out of last years phone book if you have one). Perfectly sparkling and nontoxic!
For countertops and scrubbing more soiled surfaces, I use baking soda paste and a magic eraser sponge. Again, works like a charm.
For light cleaning, I put vinegar and water in a spray bottle with 3 or 4 drops of lavender essential oil – spray and wipe clean, and it smells wonderful.
Straight lemon juice works on stains, and if they are really bad I use hydrogen peroxide. Just let it sit a few minutes. This works on mildew in the bath, too.
I also swear by Magic Erasers – those things will work when nothing else will.
Salt and ice with a bit of lemon juice will clean glass coffee pots and they will sparkle.
Toilets benefit from a mix of vinegar, water, a couple drops of dish soap and about 25 drops of tea tree oil mixed in a bottle and used to clean the inside and outside. The mixture also is a natural disinfectant and can be used for surfaces.
I use Seventh Generation HE laundry detergent. $20 for 98 loads, and low-impact on the environment as far as toxicity goes. I have a recipe to make your own detergent, and I am going to try it soon. It uses Borax, Zote soap, Oxyclean, Baking soda and Washing soda, can be mixed and left as a powder in an airtight container. Total cost is less than $10 and yields about 200 loads.
Another completely natural option are soap berries. They cost about $18 for 10 oz and yield 150 loads.
Just some thoughts, but you can find more here if you are interested.
FYI, Melaleuca is the name for the Tea Tree in tea tree oil, and has both anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. Lavender essential oil has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties. Both smell great!

I also signed up for Melaleuca, but started researching their ingredients. I was very disappointed to find that some of them were in a “medium health risk” category. I was super excited to possibly sell healthy products and use them in our home, but just cancelled the membership within a week, as I did not feel their products were as safe as they had advertised. This is not to say that some of their products were in a more healthy category, but I was looking for a company in which all of there products were safe and healthy. Thanks for posting.

Hi everyone! I recently signed up with Melaleuca and am researching it myself. Nobody claimed the products were “All natural” or “100% organic”. I was told that they are a healthier alternative(not the “best” not the “healthiest”) to some of the stuff we are already using. For a lot of people it is hard to go 100% natural/organic for one reason or another. I view Melaleuca as a small step in the right direction. I also started referring friends because I view doing so like couponing. You don’t get that much compensation but it is enough to pay for my products each month which is great! I have a family of 4 and we all have sensitive skin. I was having bad reactions to the old shampoo/conditioners and laundry detergents i was using in the past. I also have family members with exzema. We were looking for a change anyways. Im enjoying trying out the products they have and researching. Thank you for being apart of my research! So far I have found some products my skin reacts to still and some that I am fine with. My family members with exzema have had great results using melaleuca’s line. I am happy with things so far. It’s not for everyone, but its not a horrible company either. 😉

THey are very misleading. I was looking to sell natural products as part of a mission to help people remove daily cancer risks and was so excited about Melaleuca until I found they are full of the same toxic ingredients cheap grocery store products are. Just look at their so called Green Household cleaners. They have two labels in hopes that you won’t discover the truth. The top label says 4% natural, 95% other ingredients. I called to find out what those 95% OTHER ingredients were taht didn’t fall into the natural category. Top secret. Then I noticed the second label conveniently hidden under the first label. Peeled off the first label and found the HAZARDOUS TO ANIMALS AND HUMANS label and poison control directions. So cleary not natural like they claim and by using 4% plant ingredients so they can say they are natural when they are not meets my definition of scam, fraud and unethical. By law they don’t have to list cleaning supply labels but they do personal care. Compare their lotions with Suave, the cheapest product you can find and they are almost identical. Their top selling lotion has petrolatum a gas derivative in it. That can’t be considered non-carcinogenic. And it is not the safe kind of Petrolatum they try to tell you it is. It is the most dangerous form on the market and any of it is simply not healthy. So to find your answer like I spent hours trying to find. read the labels. compare melaleuca labels with other truly natural ingredients out there and you will find a huge difference. For truly natural personal care, try Juice Beauty or Mychelle, products are so food and plant based you could eat them and they have been backed up by third-parties as truly organic. You won’t find Melalecua on those lists. BEYOND DISAPPOINTED.

I love this article/blog. I am feeling so duped right now by my Melaleuca “sponsor”. Melaluca themselves to not claim to be all natural but a wellness company. Really artificial sweetener in some products. Petrolatum and dimethicone in others. Wellness or not as my “sponsor” said, “don’t you want to rid your home of toxins?” Well of course I do that is why I likely won’t order from Melaleuca again.

I found Melaleuca while doing a search on what causes ear infections. My daughter had 10 double ear infections by the time she was 11 months old. She had seen an ENT and we were told she was going to need tubes. I started researching. I found that Meleleuca offered a safer shampoo and other shampoos were sometimes the cause of ear infections. I decided to give it a try. My daughter never had another ear infection after switching and she just turned 10 years old. She also never needed tubes. The toothpaste is also a great example of how wonderful these products are. I work in the dental field and I recommend the Melaleuca toothpaste to all my patients. Since we started using their toothpaste, my family of 5 have never had another cavity and my husband and oldest child used to be very prone to decay. I stand by this company and their products. For those of you who have “tried” this company out for a very short time. (Meaning you really did not give it a chance) I feel sorry for you. You don’t know what your missing.

I am concerned about the renew because of the petroleum product in it. I am a recovering cancer patient, and even though I love the product and it feel just great on my skin. Petroleum products can cause skin cancer, and that it much worse to have than missing out on the renew I will have to find another product that is equal to it. Don’t other people care about the health aspect of this?

April, thank you for your evidence based facts. I live in Austin Texas and believe firmly in supporting local companies that make products that work WITH OUT toxic ingredients. I also try not to waste. I just set up my account today and I am quickly regretting it. The woman who signed me up was very nice, and I have nothing against her. Everyone has a choice when it comes to making money, using products and supporting companies. But she definitely talked up the GREEN benefits quite a bit. Everything she said made me more and more excited. But if you are like me and spend HOURS in the grocery store looking and the ingredients on everything you pick up. (may be a vegan thing), then you know that I was asking her about what the products contain. I was told that I would not be able to see the product label till I signed up and joined the site. My first mistake was believing her and jumping into it. My second mistake was not researching for MORE hours before I signed up. I also am very displeased at the amount I need to buy every month. I feel like it may be a way to get me to just hand out free stuff to people. I am just ONE person with a boyfriend who has NO hair. I thought 35 points was practical. NO WAY. This is about as consumer whorish and wasteful as it gets. Sheesh I am mad at myself because I expected more from myself. AH well. I haven’t found 1 thing I would buy. Now what do I do. Never again. Dear friends, I have happened upon this blog as a new distributor of Melaleauca products. I am 61 and was seeking an extra income. I also like better quality products. In reading the defencive remarks and ways people have given their opinions here I would like to comment,.
This attitude ( Sales Pitch) “we don’t sell products”……!!! are you for real??
My goodness… i didn’t get into a business that doesn’t sell products. If I dont sell products then there is no income.
Point two… I know what we buy in stores and the companies behind them. I have seen and come to learn that we have been poisoned by the products we eat and use on our bodies. If you can find me a company that can produce products that are completely perfect please let me know. Also make sure they are at the price an average person can afford.
As for the 35 points,.,, yes I personally don’t agree with that. However, if a person used the business model the way it was developed to be used… we can get our products free! Just by having a few customers. I also have people who hate the 35 point thingy but want products. So I order them and get the points and then supply them. Thus i don’t ever have to order my back up order.
Please look at attitudes as you read. The attitudes I see are competitiveness, attack, slanderous, anger, and so on. Then it ranged on people with veggy opinions and animal abuse etc. My goodness there is such an infintile group of people acting like they know what they are talking about and all it is — surely… is their opinions.
Scientific proof is needed to prove all points on subjects such as poisons in products. Also the food and drug act and government restrictions on companies should be lobbied so we could actually trust products being brought upon us unsuspectively. Opinions are worthless.
I can say that I have found some products to my liking and others not so much. However, my goal was to find products I would feel much more competent in selling or representing.
One other thing I saw was i was told this is not an MLM. However, it does have a pay structure that pays on levels. People have been all up in arms against MLM’s. I too have had such an attitude. I have grown up some over the years. People in organizations can act like thieves or act like true business people. I hate hype in many of the organizations. I didn’t find any hype in my presentation and no one told me i was going to get rich. In fact I was told to slow down and learn the training if i wanted to be successful as this is not like many mlm’s.
I was wrongly informed as to saying we don’t sell anything but a membership. Upon further discussions and being involved I have found I actually do try to promote better wellness in the home. Vitality has enhanced my health. I do feel better using the soaps and safer not having to have child proof caps in the home.
Please understand, I lost several customers due to the 35 point system. That truly sucks. I like others have opinions also that could be develled into and exploited as I have seen in this blog. I choose to see reality. THERE ARE NO PERFECT COMPANIES OR PRODUCTS IN THIS EARTH THAT ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE POOR.
I travel to Asia and see horrid living conditions. I see them eating and using products in the need to survive that we could blame the whole world for allowing. This western society is so spoiled that we think our opinions are as God. Whoops ,,, I used the G word.
Common get real….have we got nothing better to do than to spend our time on the internet seeking out things we can waste our time putting org’s down and finding fault with the world. We all know it is going to hell in a hand basket.
Why not instead get on board and do SOME good. Be helpful, lend a hand, get some customers so you can make the money for the 35 pts, Or with all your energy go develop the products you suggest we need without the chemicals you see as bad.

Simply put, Melaleuca sells overpriced products that are not USDA approved, NOT made in the USA and DO contain many of the same chemicals found in products sold in stores. They ARE a pyramid scheme meant for the top dogs to get wealthy. Why anyone would pay so much money for items that they REALLY don’t need is beyond me. But, to each his own. I will keep Target, Cub and Walmart in business because they provide thousands of local jobs. Something Melaleuca cannot claim!!

Blogs like this really are just for venting nonsense, and most often the people who write this negative stuff are truly uninformed. It’s too bad that angry uninformed or uneducated people ruin a good thing for others.
I’ve been a customer over 10 years, and am blessed to have been introduced to Melaleuca. The products have helped get rid of eczema, allergies, asthma puffers in our home…and helped me regain my health and get off alot of medications. Not to mention the quality of the products are unlike anything I have ever used before.
They will never use an ingredient that will hurt us or the environment, and just because you do not understand the science behind the product doesn’t give you all the right to trash the company. Maybe you should google the scientists behind these products- they are top in their fields and some products have undergone decades of research before even coming into our homes. These scientists would not risk loosing their reputations be being involved with a scamming company.
For all you people relating them to MLM, well I did a little search, and again you need to inform yourselves. Melaleuca is NOT MLM

You had a bad Melaleuca experience. You shared your opinion on the company. That’s fine.
Claiming it’s an MLM, that Renew has parabens, that there are better vitamins… All of that is misinformation. By sharing it, you are not sharing an “opinion”, you are sharing falsehoods.
Is it still protected? In the same way that any falsehood is protected, yes… In the most tenuous way possible under the Freedom of Speech.
Many have shared the accolades, science, and patents the company has. Additionally, 64% of the people who shop have never shared it with anyone, and of the remaining 36, 24 have shared it with less than 5 people. Meaning almost 89% of the over 1 million customers shop month after month because they like the product. If the products didn’t work, or weren’t a better value, there would not be such a high number of preferred members who just shopped.
But please, continue touting how bad the company is.

Unfortunately like the first blogger I was sold on the products safety. Well what a LOAD of HOGS WASH you only need to read the ingredients list to discover these products are not safe at all !! Thank goodness I’m an educated purchaser and once reading the labels worked it out. But rather a fool for taking someone’s advice instead of doing the initial research myself. I hope other non suspecting people don’t get caught out as the marketing is only there to try and pull the wool over.

Which products & ingredients would you be referring to Lucy? Because when I first became a customer (over 10 years ago), I too had the same reaction as you and erroneously became the “ingredient police”… but upon doing my homework (which meant actually asking for and receiving the studies to back their products up…and not believing alot of hogwash on the internet from these “on line mafia sites that will say good things about you if you pay them”)..I found that not only were the products safer AND more effective AND smarter choices for our environment AND not only did I save money but received a ton of loyalty benefits that Walmarts/Grocery stores/drug stores don’t give..AND they worked better than these other so called natural products on the market… but my family got rid of all health concerns (eg. no more eczema, no more asthma pumps or allergies, no more colds, no more irritable bowel, we don’t even get colds anymore.I’m am totally confident that Melaleuca will never harm us or the environment..and am happy that I stayed open minded and decided to research from credible sources.
It’s too bad you feel the way you do, I think you’re missing out. I belive Melaleuca would have been sued along time ago if they were not ethical and were saying things that were not true. Don’t you? Try calling the Better Business Bureau who tracks companies that are not credible…and you’ll see that Melaleuca have a AAA+ rating with the better business bureau.

There is finally a company that has full ingredient disclosure, are certified ToxicFree & no monthly requirements. A membership based buyers club where you choose what you buy & when you want to buy it. I have tried all of the products and they are amazing & true to what they say they are. I just joined the SAFEST products company in the beauty products industry. It sounds like you know your stuff and 99% of this job is informing everyone to start digging (like you did) into their products and checking them on the EWG. I am a Melaleuca customer and am not entirely satisfied. There are a few of their products that I really love – but these are VERY few. Not enough to make my point minimum each month. The rest are kind of shoddy. For a green company, they use a lot of ingredients that I wouldn’t have in my house. Acetaminophen for one, and Sucralose to name another. Lots of soy, which is one of the top food allergens in the world and almost always GMO. Overpriced bath and beauty items that aren’t really as good as their “free market” counterparts. Month after month I scour their website trying to find acceptable things to round out my order but it is in vain. I end up buying things I don’t want or need because I want to hang on to those few items that are worth their weight in gold.
The items I like are: Mela Power laundry detergent, Mela Bright, liquid dish soap, Diamond Bright automatic dishwasher detergent, SoluGuard, and Rustic Touch. That’s about it. So for the past three years, I have looked for other products to round out my orders only to be disappointed. Their make-up isn’t any less expensive than other brands and it isn’t really as good as the competition. Their skin care line is a “secret” with “proprietary” ingredients which is just a euphemism for “we are ashamed that our formulae are not as high quality as the competition”.
Their factory locations are secret and they will not divulge where the products are manufactured. (I know this because I tried to get my Mom on board to help me meet my quota. She only buys USA made goods and so I checked for her. They hemmed and hawed and skirted the issue and would never actually tell me where they source their products.)
I tried their supplement line for awhile, but that was a bust. SO much of their supplement line relies on soy or some other ingredient that I cannot have in my body. My doctor is also a Melaleuca customer and she is in agreement with me about the Melaleuca supplements. She likes their cleaning products, but says that the supplements are not bio-available, despite the fact that they advertise bioavailability in their products in a very big way. Anyway, I never saw any benefit from the supplements when I tried them.
So I am in a quandary. Melaleuca has a few foundational products that are worth having, but not enough to help me consistently meet my quota. Their sleazy responses when I inquired about their skin care formulae, and their factory locations has left a bad taste in my mouth and every month when I place my required order, I experience a growing sensation of crawling skin and aversion to this company. Are they really green? I don’t know. In my humble opinion, green should never include GMOs, Sucralose and acetaminophen, so I suspect that they probably are not green. I am slowly grinding down to a cancellation of my membership.
But I will SO miss those few products that I have grown to love and depend on. 😦

Excellent post. It is true, in my opinion too, Melaleuca is just a border line company now in regards to most of their products. As people become educated with all the other truly Green companies and their products the conclusion is there are much better products available. Dimethicone and petrolatum in Renew lotion. Sucralose in many food products. Yes, and soy too. Aluminum in antiperspirant. Fragrance listed as ingredient in several products. Glycerin, acesulfame potassium, sodium alkyl sulfate listed as ingredients in tooth polish. (Compare this to http://www.earthpaste.com). I am really disappointed too, as I have come to realize Melaleuca’s products being “greenwashed” by the company.

Oh lord. Don’t believe everything you read on the internet. Get the facts straight. People like you ruin it for everyone else. Are any of you scientists that can make that judgement call on Melaleuca Ingredients? Are you the ingredient police? Do you realize how much research and studies go into the development of Melaleuca products? Sometimes decades. Ever google the credentials of the Universities and Scientists that team up with Melaleuca to develop THESE safe products?
First, Melaleuca has a AAA rating with the better business bureau. They would never achieve that rating from the BBB if they were not a company that operated with the utmost honesty and integrity. They would be sued for making false claims, and would never receive patents from the US Board of Trade. They do not have harmful parabens in their Renew lotion… as for the fragrances, they are natural fragrances from flowers and other natural ingredients…
but let me address SUCRALOSE ::: Sucralose is made from sugar. Melaleuca have replaced a hydroxyl group with a chloride (salt). Result is a sweeter part of sugar without the calories and the sugar part.
This has been tested extensively over a 20 year period and the amounts tested were over 100 times more than what a normal adult would consume in one day., and even at 100 times- it was still safe for even pregnant women and children. Because it doesn’t have the sugar part, it won’t affect insulin productions.Pls refer to link at fda.gov and educate yourself.
As for Aluminum in their antiperspirants:::aluminum salt is the active ingredient in antiperspirants. next phase is it dissolves in sweat. Underarm moisture dissolves aluminum salt, forming a gel. Then the gel creates a temporary “plug” at the top of the sweat gland, reducing how much sweat is secreted onto the skin’s surface..then bathing removes the antiperspirant gel. Studies from leading cancer Institute including the National Cancer Institute indicate that there is no evidence linking the aluminum salts in antiperspirants and the development of breast cancer. Scientists have NOT found a link between aluminum and Alzheimer’s disease. A recent study following more than 4000 people over several years found that there was no increased risk for Alzheimer’s disease among people using antiperspirants that contain aluminum salt.
Some of the myths about aluminum and cancer can be traced back to an email rumor from 1999 that gets rewritten and reissued just about every year. With all information from internet, it’s critically important to analyze the source, see where the “research” came from and ask “Who benefits from this?” As sad as it may seem, there’s alot of money and publicity in fear mongering, and with the ease of spreading information online, the trend is not likely to end anytime soon.

I’m a cancer survivor, and was introduced to Melaleuca in 2004. Best thing that ever happened to our family. We got rid of asthma puffers, allergies, eczema (after battling with medicated creams, cortisone creams and prescription creams from dermatologists for over 30 years -AND BY CHANGING MY LAUNDRY SOAP TO MELALEUCA’S MELAPOWER, USING MELALEUCA’S RENEW BODY WASH AND RENEW LOTION- IT DISAPPEARED IN JUST 2 WEEKS, AND HAS NEVER COME BACK OVER 10 YEARS LATER). People need to know that indeed a company like this exists, and products like these do exist.
So there you have it…don’t believe everything you read on the internet, take the time to better inform yourself with reliable studies from reliable sources…. you’re missing out on some exceptional products. Most green products are not as green as you think… 99.9 % of so-called green products make false, misleading or unsubstantiated claims according to a study a few years back by TerraChoice Environmental Marketing.

The monthly demanded purchase is a ridiculous way to do business. Many of the products are great, but they are not natural. 600,000 households after 25 years is a far site less than the millions of households serviced by other companies. I really believe as more and more people try to use natural products, if these products were in fact natural and consumers weren’t being strong armed into buying the preset amount every month, the numbers would be a great deal higher.

Melaleuca could become a true tidal wave. Simply by making even safer products. Get rid of artificial sweeteners. Get rid of fragrance, parfum ingredients. Melaleuca was ahead of others back in the day. Not so now. The one big thing Melaleuca has is it is a debt free company so will be around as other similar companies will go bankrupt. It really amazes me that Melaleuca continues to use truly questionable ingredients. Another example is aluminum in deodorant. Just get rid of it as an ingredient. The researchers and scientists and product formulators know what to do to get more customers and to get more customers to keep buying year after year. Just get it done and people won’t quit after reading labels after they get Melaleuca products.

Is it OK to assume that Melaleuca should, after almost thirty years in business, have a lot more than 1,000,000 customers. I hear presenters of Melaleuca say how a 100,000 customers joined just last month. And, this statement has been out there for at least the last twenty years. Do the math. A lot of customers dropping out. Why? Products are not as clean and green as you would expect.

??? I’ve been a Melaleuca customer over 11 years, I’ve never heard a statement (100,000 customers joined Melaleuca last month)… however … they have a documented monthly reorder rate of 95% (average across the board)
Retention in my own business is 98%
Don’t know where you get your info, but it is incorrect.

I just got my first shipment and I was sold on the idea of working for melaleuca. But I have found out they have tested on and don’t want to say they will never test on animals. I am also wanting to work from home and use “green” products.
